Taiwan Foxconn to Make Solar Panels in Japan in 2014
Taiwanese consumer electronics producer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., also known as Foxconn, intends to start making solar panels in Japan in 2014. The manufacturing will be launched on a contract basis, with Hon Hai planning to begin talks with Japanese producers of solar batteries and parts in the near future. Specific features of the production, including its volume, will be defined in view of the market conditions. Hon Hai made 30MW of solar panels last year. The company currently holds a share of under 1% of the global solar panel market. It intends to boost its annual output capacity to 400MW. Hon Hai, which already has factories in China and Mexico, plans to open production facilities in the US and the Czech Republic in 2013.
