Company History
The
Multi-Contact company owes its creation to the pioneering spirit and
initiative of its founder, Rudolf Neidecker, who in 1960 recognized
the importance of the point of contact in the transmission of
current. A range of products for contact systems have been built on
the basis of the Multilam technology Neidecker developed, which has
earned an international reputation for reliability.
In 1962, the firm was transformed into a joint-stock company. At
that time, it employed a staff of 10 in the three-country corner of
Switzerland, Germany, and France. The company devoted itself solely
to the production and marketing of high-quality products based on
Multi-Contact's Multilam technology. The sales of its products
experienced an explosive development with big switchgear
manufacturers such as BBC, Siemens, AEG, and Toshiba.
Global Presence
Today,
Multi-Contact has 750 employees worldwide, and is based in
Basel-Allschwil, Switzerland. Further production sites are
located in France, Germany, the
U.S., and China. Business units operate across Europe, as
well as in Asia and the Americas.
Multi-Contact is part of the Stäubli Group, an international
mechatronics solution provider with three dedicated divisions:
textile machinery, connectors,
and robotics. With a workforce of 3,000, Stäubli has a
presence in 24 countries and agents in 50 countries around the
world.
In 1997, Multi-Contact established an Internet presence, with timely
publications available in five languages. Multi-Contact’s website
distinguishes individual product lines by using specific colors,
making it simpler to handle large volumes of information.
Multi-Contact’s e-catalog offers current product information, and
print catalogs, CDs, and the website also keep the customer
connected. Additional tools to help streamline connector selection
are continually being developed. The newest tool, the CombiTac
Configurator, simplifies the complex configuration of modular plug
connectors.
