When Jack T. Gentry founded Positronic Industries in 1966, his goal was to establish a connector manufacturer capable of providing high quality, innovative products at a reasonable price. Positronic has since expanded its manufacturing facilities to cover the global marketplace. Factory locations now include the corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri; Ponce, Puerto Rico; Auch, France; and Singapore. Positronic is supported by over 320,000 square feet total manufacturing space and 1000 employees worldwide.

Positronic’s mission has always remained constant: to utilize product flexibility and application assistance to present interconnect solutions, which will represent value to customers.

Positronic’s “Complete Capability“ concept, defined as total in-house product development, engineering support, and manufacturing and assembling of connector products, has been key to Positronic’s success in meeting customers’ needs.

Positronic’s manufacturing capabilities include in-house molding of insulators, hoods, and accessories; machining contacts and threadlock hardware; producing stamped and formed metal hoods and strain relief accessories; and electroplating connector contacts and accessories. Positronic also has in-house testing laboratories to support product development and customer testing requirements.

Technology

Positronic connectors use precision-machined contact technology. This technology provides our customers with high quality connector products that will perform well over time, even under harsh conditions. Solid machined contacts also allow power connector products to achieve a higher current carrying density than stamped contact technology. Our expertise in high-speed contact manufacturing allows Positronic to provide a variety of connector solutions at a reasonable cost.

Products

Positronic offers an extensive range of standard connector products. Positronic is eager to work with customers to modify standard products or develop new product requirements.

  • Power Connectors Positronic offers the widest variety of power connector solutions. A broad range of shapes, sizes, and contact variants are available. Features include: PCB mount (including press-fit), cable style, and panel mount terminations; low contact resistance, sequential mating; blind mating; and hot swap.

  • D-subminiature Connectors Standard density, high density, and mixed density contact variants are offered. Features include: multiple termination types, including press-fit; environmental protection; various performance options for best performance-to-cost ratio; power, signal, high voltage and thermocouple contact types; many accessories providing application solutions.

  • Circular Connectors Multiple package sizes are offered with a variety of contact variants for power, signal, coax, and thermocouple contact applications. Features include: light weight, non-corrodible, composite material; hot plug capability; two level sequential mating of contacts; crimp removable contacts; straight and right-angle printed board terminations; environmental version providing dust and water ingress protection to IEC IP67; EMI/RFI shielded version, electroless nickel-plated.

  • Rectangular Connectors Many package sizes and contact variants, including subminiature, are offered. Features include: rugged, durable design; PCB mount; cable style and panel mount; a wide variety of accessories, including connector keying options‑many feature options to provide application solutions.

  • Hermetic Connectors Offered in standard density and high density D-subminiature feed-throughs intermateable with IEC 807-2, IEC 807-3, and M24308 D-subminiature connectors. Combination D-subminiature feed-throughs with signal, power, coax, high voltage, and thermocouple contact options. Hermetic connectors can be pre-assembled onto plates/flanges per customer specifications. Circular connector feed-throughs are also available. Hermetic connectors are offered with affordable prices and reasonable delivery. Leakage rate less than 1 x 10-9 mbar.l/s.

  • RoHS Options Positronic Industries shares in the world community’s concern regarding environmental protection. Positronic strives to stay abreast of environmental regulations that relate to our connector products and their use in customer applications.

Positronic is prepared to support customer needs for connectors that meet the requirements of “Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 January 2003 on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment,” better known as RoHS.

Positronic will also work with customers who have requirements in addition to RoHS.

Involvement

Throughout the history of the company, Positronic has been active in various organizations involved in the development of connector products and specifications. Positronic has participated in the work of the EIA, IEC, ISO, PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG), VME Industrial Trade Association (VITA), and Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA).

Positronic has developed products that have been adopted as standard interfaces. Examples include the PCIH47 series, chosen as the power connector for the PICMG 2.11 Power Interface Specification. Positronic’s VPB series was adopted as the Zone 1 power connector for AdvancedTCA.

Many Positronic products have become “defacto standards” within the industry and in some cases copied by competitors. Examples are the PCS power connector series and the Dual Port D-subminiature connector.

Positronic is proud to lend our expertise in developing products and specifications which help to promote our customers’ success in markets such as telecommunications, data communications, mil/aero, avionics, medical, industrial, computing, transportation, and instrumentation.
