Mill-Max Manufacturing Corp., located at 190 Pine Hollow Road, Oyster Bay, New York, is a vertically integrated engineering and manufacturing company capable of producing over 100 million interconnect components a week, making Mill-Max the largest manufacturer of precision machined interconnect components in North America.

Established in 1971, by chairman and CEO Roger Bahnik, Mill-Max has a tradition of exercising total control of its manufacturing ‑ from raw materials to finished product. The 150,000 square foot plant houses all facilities that include engineering, tooling, primary and secondary machining, stamping, gold- and tin-plating, injection molding, automatic assembly operations, and process control. All functions at Mill-Max are monitored by quality control inspectors.

Mill-Max is particularly distinguished by its use of proprietary high-speed turning machines. On the factory floor, hundreds of automated machines turn copper alloy rod and wire at high speeds, as cutting tools shape each pin. This method enables Mill-Max to hold tolerances down to +/-.0005 inches. High-speed turning machines have the flexibility to be easily and quickly re-configured to make pins in different sizes and shapes. This makes the task of producing application specific products simple.

Mill-Max manufactures solder terminals, PC board pins, pin receptacles, wrapost receptacles, and terminals. The product line also includes a complete line of DIP, SIP, PGA, BGA and military sockets, disposable socket carriers, square and round pin headers, sockets for automatic insertion or surface mount, PCB connectors, and application specific parts.

In addition, Mill-Max offers USB sockets, stamped DIP sockets, low-cost PLCCs, and lubricated DIP and PLCC sockets.

Mill-Max prides itself in the ability to meet the customers’ individual needs, while keeping its reputation for having exceptional lead times. Mill-Max can machine FR-4 epoxy insulators for prototype quantities and then respond to production quantities with injection molding of thermoplastic insulators.

New Products
The newest product is a line of spring-loaded connectors, available in surface mount and thru-hole for use on .100” grid, and available in 9 heights from .137” to .370”. A typical application would be as the base unit (battery/charger) interface for portable equipment such as mobile phones and radios, bar code readers, and medical and test instruments.

Another new product from Mill-Max is the Organic Fibre Plugs®, available in eight sizes of pin receptacles and pass-thru sockets in single and double rows. The unique Organic Fibre Plug® barriers prevent solder paste or flux from contaminating the internal spring contacts. After soldering, the OFP® barriers are pushed out of the socket when the mating header is inserted.

Like many of Mill-Max’s parts, these two product lines are available as discrete components assembled in plastic insulators or purchased on tape and reel.
