Lumberg RASTLumberg has introduced the 3517-4 RAST standard connector with a 2.5mm pitch. With optional keying rib and closed sides, it achieves a retaining force of ≥13.4 Newton. This is made possible by the reinforced locking toes inside the casing’s reliable geometry, which ensure a higher mechanical retention on the printed circuit board without taking up additional casing space. This new RAST 2.5 version has a proven track record for automotive applications and can also mate with existing harnessing machines with single wires with diameters that range from 0.22 mm² and 0.38mm² and insulation resistance of up to a maximum 1.6mm.

Molex Nano-Pitch seriesMolex introduced the Nano-Pitch I/O 80-Circuit Interconnect System, which offers the highest port density and speed (25Gb/s per lane) in the smallest package available. A multi-protocol pinout concept enables compatibility with all known SAS, SATA, and PCIe protocols and provides enhanced signal integrity in an extremely compact form factor. The connector is ideal for SAS and PCI Express applications, including storage-to-controller, server-to-server, server-to-switch, switch-to-switch, and mobile/enterprise.

Nye Lubricants announced it has formulated and commercialized Rheotemp 768G for use in connector applications. Rheotemp 768G is a polyuria-thickened, medium-viscosity synthetic hydrocarbon grease fortified with a copper passivator and UV tracer for use in electrical contacts. 768G (with an operating temperature range of -40°C to 175°C) was designed to meet the insertion force and resistance requirements of SAE/USCAR- 2, revision 6, the performance standard for automotive electrical connection systems. A unique blend of alkylated naphthalene (AN) and PAO base oils boosts the lubricant’s heat tolerance while maintaining its superior wear protection. The blended oils are also compatible with most connector materials. The morphology of polyurea molecules in the thickener allows them to easily slip and slide across each other — to increase the lubricity of Rheotemp 768G. Polyurea also does not burnish into contacts, a problem sometimes reported with PTFE that can increase electrical resistance.

Pasternack test cablesPasternack debuted a new line of flexible precision VNA test cables rated to 50 and 67GHz, depending on the series. Designed for use as VNA test port extenders, these highly durable and flexible test cables are able to withstand the rigors of test lab use where cables are constantly flexed during common testing situations. The new lines have excellent electrical properties including low VSWR of 1.3:1 at 50GHz and 1.4:1 at 67GHz, as well as superb phase stability with flexure of +/- 6 degrees at 50GHz (with the 2.4mm connectors) and +/- 8 degrees at 67GHz (with the 1.85mm connectors). The braided stainless steel armoring surrounding the coax provides a rugged but flexible cable with a flex life exceeding 100,000 cycles. The rugged stainless steel 2.4mm and 1.85mm connectors provide up to 5,000 mating cycles when attached with proper care.

TE STRADA Whisper DPO ConnectorsTE Connectivity introduced its new STRADA Whisper direct-plug orthogonal (DPO) connectors, which enable designers to eliminate midplane connectivity to reduce costs and improve airflow in switches, servers, base stations, and other types of communications equipment. STRADA Whisper DPO connectors are an extension of TE’s STRADA Whisper backplane connector family, which was developed for high-performing, high-bandwidth systems and transfers data at speeds of 25Gb/s with scalability up to 56Gb/s. The mechanical design of TE’s STRADA Whisper DPO connectors helps mitigate typical mechanical challenges of DPOs so that the cost and airflow benefits of removing a midplane can be realized. They offer easy alignment and installation that maintains electrical performance even when the connector is not fully mated.  The robust transition header connects existing STRADA Whisper pair-in-row (PiR) receptacles to STRADA Whisper pair-in-column (PiC) receptacles without sacrificing industry-leading electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk performance. The resulting rectangular design also provides better density than competitive square-shaped direct orthogonal products, allowing for higher card density and increased system bandwidth.

TPC Wire and Cable - Power cablesTPC Wire & Cable Corp. (TPC) introduced a new power cable that simplifies installation in medium-voltage applications. Super-Trex Type MV-105 Flexible Medium Voltage Single-Conductor Power Cable uses a braid shield system to significantly improve flexibility, allowing the installer to easily maneuver the cable into place by hand while reducing downtime and labor cost for the end-user. With a 5kV-to-15kV voltage range and 133% insulation level, the power cable is ideal for use in medium-voltage applications requiring flexibility. Flexibility is achieved using rope-bunched, compressed, tin-coated copper conductors within an insulation shield created by the combination of an extruded semi-conductive layer, a semi-conductive tape, and a flexible braid shield of tinned copper and nylon.

Yamaichi introduced the IC561, IC564, and NP584 test solution socket series.Yamaichi Electronics introduced the IC561, IC564, and NP584 test solution socket series. The test sockets are suitable for different package types to offer a versatile, flexible, and universal solution. The new set of universal test sockets is as reliable as custom versions. They provide a “semi-custom” solution at standard prices. The sockets work with QFN, SON, BGA, CSP, and LGA packages. The clam-shell-type IC561, together with its smaller “twin sister” IC564, as well as the open-top NP584, are made of different pre-processed parts designed to be easily assembled. Before the assembly these parts are modified according to the specific package the socket will be housing.
