Wickedly Fast Wi-Fi Network Arrives in Downtown San Jose

Ruckus Wireless joined the City of San Jose, Calif., and SmartWAVE Technologies at the San Jose City Hall Plaza last Thursday to officially cut the cord kicking off Downtown San Jose’s free “Wickedly Fast Wi-Fi Network” during a launch celebration and press conference.

“The Cutting of the Ethernet Cable” launch event for Wickedly Fast Wi-Fi, provided at minimal cost to the City of San Jose through a public-private partnership, celebrated state-of-the-art technology developed in Silicon Valley.

The City of San Jose will be leveraging advanced Wi-Fi technology for a variety of uses including free public access and supporting revenue-generating City services. As a result, the City will operate one of the fastest and finest Wi-Fi networks in the US. The Wickedly Fast Wi-Fi Network will be accessible through the entire downtown core. The new network will also benefit the downtown parking infrastructure, primarily the pay-to-park meters, by improving the speed by which time-sensitive transactions occur. It will also connect City facilities by providing high-speed alternatives to traditional telecommunications circuits.
