Ironwood Electronics introduced a new MicroSD socket (SBT-MicroSD-01) addressing high performance requirements for Speed Class Rating, which guarantees a minimum rate at which data can be written to the card. The contactor is a stamped spring pin with 19-gram actuation force per pin and cycle life of 500,000 insertions. Low force eliminates pin-sticking issues due to temperature testing.
The self inductance of the contactor is 0.93 nH, insertion loss < 1 dB at 21.9 GHz and contact resistance is <16mOhms. The current capacity of each contactor is 4 amps at 30°C temperature rise. Socket temperature range is -55C to +180C.
The socket also features a precise alignment to interface pin to contact pads. The specific configuration of the package to be tested in the SBT-MicroSD-01 is a 15mm x 11mm x 1.0mm microSD form factor. The socket is mounted using supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering, and uses the smallest footprint for nearby passive components. Just place the MicroSD into the socket base, place compression plate and swivel the socket lid assembly on to the base. This socket utilizes compression screw for precise actuation of varying device thickness. It can be used for hand test and temperature characterization as well as debugging applications.
