Digi-Key Adds Market Innovator Wandboard.org to Lineup of Global Suppliers
Digi-Key Corporation announced the addition of Wandboard.org to its lineup of more than 650 suppliers. Wandboard.org has developed a low-cost ARM Cortex-A9 development board, offering a System-on-Module solution for designers looking to continue utilizing a board through development into production.
Created by a group of engineers in their free time and aimed at the development community, the Wandboard is an ultra-low-power computer with high-performance capabilities. The board was developed around the Freescale i.MX6 Cortex-A9 processor and is manufactured in single, dual, and quad core versions equipped with 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB of DDR3 memory, respectively. Each board also features USB and HDMI connectivity, as well as offering Gigabit LAN, a serial port, and micro SD card slot, where the Wandboard dual and quad versions add Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11n additional features.
The Wandboard has received media attention because its open-source modular approach allows engineers to take advantage of the latest technology by utilizing an off-the-shelf EDM module and custom-design, low-cost carrier connector boards to speed up project development time and leverage on readily available building blocks. The team is working with the community to have the Wandboard supported in mainline Linux Kernel, U-boot, and the Yocto-project. The community also released images for XBMC, Ubuntu, ArchLinux, Android 4.2.2 (Jellybean), Debian, and many others.
