Facts & Figures: 2013 Top 10 European-Based Connector Companies

The 2013 top 10 European-based connector companies account for 23.4% of European connector demand. Find out which made the top 10, as compiled by Bishop & Associates.

The European Connector Market

In 2013, Europe accounted for 21.8% or $10,643 million of total world connector demand. This was an increase of 7.3% over 2012, when Europe accounted for $9.916 million.

As the following table shows, Europe was the fastest-growing region in 2013.

World Connector Sales by Region 2012 v 2013

The 7.3% sales growth in 2013 was the result of improving European economies and pent-up demand resulting from a 10.9% decline in European connector sales in 2012. Bishop’s five-year forecast (2014 through 2019) for Europe is a CAGR of 4.3%. This growth rate will increase European sales from $10,643 million in 2013 to $14,414 million in 2019.

Bishop divides Europe into the western and eastern regions. For sales and forecasting purposes, Europe is further divided into 19 different regions or countries. These regions or countries are as follows:

  • Austria
  • Benelux – Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg
  • Bulgaria
  • Czech Republic
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Poland
  • Iberian Peninsula – Portugal and Spain
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • United Kingdom
  • Scandinavia – Denmark, Norway, and Sweden
  • Other Countries – Slovenia, Croatia, Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Malta, Cyprus, Greece, and city-states such as Vatican, Gibraltar, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, and San Marino

It is important to note that Bishop does not include Russia in the European region, but rather as a part of the ROW region.

Western countries include Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Eastern countries include Turkey, Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic. In 2013, the western countries accounted for 81.8% of European connector demand, and the eastern countries 18.2%.

For a more detailed description, as well as sales and forecast information on specific European countries and regions, please see Bishop & Associates’ research report entitled “The European Connector Market Handbook.”

As noted above, connector demand is concentrated in Western European countries, and just three western countries accounted for 51.8% of total European connector sales in 2013.
