TE announced the successful completion and qualified product (QPL) status for its Raychem molded partsTE announced the successful completion and qualified product (QPL) status for its Raychem molded parts in accordance with SAE AS85049/140, /141, and /142, “Connector Accessories, Electrical Boots and Transitions, Heat Shrinkable.” This new specification replaces earlier military documents for straight and right-angle boots, as defined in the previously popular MS3109 (straight) and MS3117 (right-angle) specifications. Additionally, the new M85049/142 specification includes Y and T transition shapes. Molded parts ordered to this new specification have the option of being purchased in six different material types.

Amphenol Ltd named PEI-Genesis its Distributor of the Year 2014. The award was presented at the PEI-Genesis European sales meeting held in Southampton, UK. PEI-Genesis complements Amphenol Ltd’s sales channel by providing off-the-shelf and short turnaround custom-build connectors. PEI Genesis is an authorized assembling distributor for traditional product ranges from Amphenol Ltd such as 62GB and Mil-DTL-38999 and has more recently broadened its product portfolio with black zinc nickel, Terrapin, and a selection of high-power Mil-DTL-38999 connectors.

Esterline Connection Technologies – Souriau awarded a dual-source agreement to AB Connectors for the supply of its micro38999 connectors. The agreement guarantees that both manufacturers’ micro38999 connectors are intermateable and interchangeable. The product line stands out for its enhanced resistance to harsh operating environments and its compact size. Under the terms of the dual-source agreement, Souriau will provide AB Connectors, at the latter’s request, with the drawings of its connectors. In return, AB Connectors will do the same if it develops complementary products. Both manufacturers will also regularly conduct joint checks of the interoperability of their connectors.

SCHURTER passed the review by the European Chemicals Agency (EChA) for the six new substances added to the List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). Released on December 17, 2014, this list is part of the European Union’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals directive (REACH) to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. SCHURTER’s latest REACH certificate and Product Content Sheets (PCS), which give detailed information about used substances and their concentration, are available on its website.

The internationally oriented Robotdalen Innovation Award is directed at innovators, entrepreneurs, and graduate and post-graduate students from all over the world who have ideas, concepts, or solutions with commercial potential and breakthrough technology in robotics and automation. Three winners will share approximately $29,000 in prize money. Applications should be submitted no later than May 17, 2015, and will be evaluated by an external jury with extensive commercial competence. The three winners will be invited to Västerås, Sweden, in September for a prize ceremony at the Automation Summit, followed by a development workshop with Robotdalen.
